Chicago, IL—Paul Jenkins, President and CEO of Bancroft Architects + Engineers, today announced that his company has reached an agreement to acquire JL Skye, a Bay-area construction and engineering company. The acquisition gives Bancroft the ability to design and build projects for its clients around the country.
“Joe DePaul, JL Skye’s founder, and I have Navy connections that go back more than 30 years,” said Jenkins. “He and his company are so widely respected in the life sciences that I firmly believe bringing them into Bancroft is a perfect fit for both companies. We have overlap in our client list that will help with a smooth transition. Joe is himself an acclaimed mechanical engineer who has led the design and maintenance of incredibly complex scientific facilities, with a concentration of activity in and around California.”
This acquisition gives Bancroft an expanded presence in the West. “Our portfolio of projects extends across the country. Right now we’re designing facilities for clients in 22 states. Increasingly, there has been the need for us to establish fully-staffed regional headquarters. Our expansion west coincides with our anticipated growth into a fully-staffed office in the South. We’re bursting at the seams in our Chicago (main) headquarters, so this will help relieve some of that growth.” Bancroft intends to retain all of the current JL Skye employees and will rebrand their California office in the coming months.
Joe DePaul, the disabled Navy Veteran who founded JL Skye is enthusiastic about the move, “When you create a company and then build that company and grow that company, you dream that one day what you’re doing will make a difference. I think being part of Bancroft will help us make a bigger and more meaningful impact. Being a part of a larger firm with the portfolio that Bancroft has is really a dream come true.”
Though Bancroft has served as the prime consultant on many design-build projects, in the past the construction has been achieved only with a teaming partner. Acquiring JL Skye gives Bancroft the ability to self-perform planning, design, build and construction period services for clients. “It is important that by acquiring JL Skye we gain a California construction license, given that so many of our bio-tech clients have facilities there. Our highly-technical projects require a precise, trusted construction team and that’s what we now have in-house. It’s an invaluable asset for our clients.”
Established in 2000, Bancroft Architects + Engineers is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned small business headquartered in suburban Chicago. Bancroft has a full-time staff of more than 50 architects, engineers and interior designers working from satellite offices across the country. Bancroft specializes in the design of complex scientific and healthcare facilities. The merger of JL Skye into Bancroft is expected to be complete in the fourth quarter of 2019.
