Bancroft Acquires the Nation’s Senior Structural Engineering Firm

June 2, 2o22

Structural Engineering Associates (SEA) of Kansas City has become the newest member of the Bancroft family of companies.  Effective immediately, the historic firm, founded in 1909, becomes a permanent addition to Bancroft Architects + Engineers.

“I am incredibly proud to be entrusted to carry on the century-old legacy of this sensational company,” said Paul Jenkins, the President and CEO of Bancroft Architects + Engineers.  “Structural Engineering Associates enjoy an impeccable history of excellence, with clients we are honored to serve.  Their project portfolio reads like a digest of the American architectural landscape.”

Bancroft started in 2009 as a firm of ten MEP engineers.  In 2012 the company added architects and has since grown to a full-time staff of 60.  The company had traditionally sub-contracted for structural engineering, but earlier this year started hiring in-house engineers to support the demand.  The addition of SEA will enable Bancroft to provide structural engineering for its own projects while continuing to serve SEA’s long-established list of clients around.

“When we considered the best path forward, it was imperative that we find a company to merge with that shares our values.  SEA’s commitment to its employees and its clients is what has given us more than 100 years of success.  Bancroft shares our tradition of excellence,” said Ralph Jones, one of the company’s principals.

Another of SEA’s principals, Krishna Saha, had this to say about the ownership transition, “Our clients and our employees deserve to maintain the confidence they have in SEA.  That means providing an answer for our long-term future, our long-term viability.  Being part of Bancroft ensures both.”

Bancroft is headquartered in suburban Chicago, with offices around the country.  Structural Engineering Associates will continue to thrive in its current location in the Commerce Bank Building in downtown Kansas City.  Bancroft is a service-disabled Veteran-owned small business, a set-aside status that conveys immediately to SEA.  “We view this ownership transition to be purely additive for everyone,” said SEA’s third principal, Kirk Matchell.  “Being disabled Veteran-owned provides our clients with an added benefit moving forward.”
