Mike is one of the world’s leading experts on adult and pediatric transplant surgery, with particular expertise in liver and hepatobiliary surgery. His pioneering research explores the application of cellular technology to patient care. Most recently, Mike has been investigating how hepatocyte transplantation, extracorporeal assist technology and stem cells can assist in the care of patients with liver disease or liver tumors. Because of his research into health and policy ethics, he plays a major role in international negotiations regarding the transfer of live tissue and organs around the world. He is a key strategist helping the Chinese Ministry of Health reform their transplant system.
