O’Hare Runway Lighting Modernization

Working as a subcontractor to an engineering contractor for the O'Hare modernization, Bancroft designed high-mast, high-intensity, low-energy lighting solutions for the airfield reconfiguration.  These lighting solutions included associated infrastructure surveys as well as electrical improvements to accommodate the additional lighting required.  Lighting design was both for the temporary lighting (during the construction phase) and permanent lighting solutions.  Four new runways and accompanying taxiways, along with expanded runways resulted in more than 5,000 individual mast lights as part of the design.  To meet efficiency and maintenance standards, Bancroft used leading LED technologies to achieve FAA mandated lumens while meeting light-throw restrictions during flight operation.
